How does Clever Alert know when the power is out?
The Clever Alert gateway is in constant contact with the Clever Alert database server on the internet, and the server is expecting regular temperature updates from it.
If the power or internet fails and that connection is lost, the server will know and it can send out alarm notifications. Clever Alert doesn’t know whether it is the power or internet that has failed, so if gives a generic “offline” alarm.
Will I lose data?
No.
The Clever Alert loggers have a built-in memory that can hold weeks’ worth of data (at a 5 minute sample rate), so even if the power to the gateway is out, the logger will keep recording temperatures.
As long as the gateway’s connection to the internet is restored before the memory fills up, the logger will transmit all missing data so there is no gap in the graph.
Will I get temperature alarms?
While the power is out and the gateway is disconnected from the Clever Alert server, there is no way for the server to know what temperatures the loggers are experiencing, so you won’t get any high or low temperature alerts.
